Beyond the hangar: CAMO and quality
Not every aviation maintenance career is spent on the hangar floor. A Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation (CAMO) plans and controls the maintenance programme of an aircraft fleet, tracks components and life limits, and makes sure airworthiness directives and service bulletins are handled.
Quality departments audit maintenance work, procedures and records to make sure everything meets DGCA requirements and company standards.
Experienced AMEs often move into CAMO, planning, technical records and quality roles, where their hands-on knowledge is valuable.
Typical CAMO and quality roles
Maintenance planning
Scheduling checks and tasks for the fleet.
Technical records
Keeping aircraft and component records accurate.
Airworthiness engineering
Reviewing directives, bulletins and modifications.
Quality audits
Checking that work and procedures meet requirements.
What these roles need
CAMO and quality work relies on a clear understanding of aviation legislation, maintenance data and documentation, along with attention to detail.
Module 10 (Aviation Legislation) and Module 9 (Human Factors) in AME training build an early foundation for these roles.
- Aviation legislation
- Attention to detail
- Documentation and records
- Communication with engineering teams

How engineers move into CAMO and quality
Most professionals in these roles first spend years in line or base maintenance. That practical background helps them plan realistic maintenance and audit work meaningfully.
A strong start in AME basic training at a DGCA-approved organisation is the first step on this path.
- Start in line or base maintenance
- Build licence and experience
- Move to planning or records
- Grow into quality and airworthiness

Train at Redwings Aerotechnique, Bhopal
Redwings Aerotechnique is a DGCA-approved CAR-147 basic maintenance training organisation in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. It is part of Redwings Group, which also runs its own DGCA-approved CAR-145 maintenance, repair and overhaul organisation. This connection means students learn aircraft maintenance from people who work to real industry standards every day.
Students can choose the B1.1 (turbine aeroplanes), B1.2 (piston aeroplanes) or B2 (avionics) stream, or the dual programme AME + B.E. Classes follow the DGCA syllabus and are supported by an engine system lab, airframe system lab, electrical, radio navigation, instrument and battery workshops, a general workshop, audio-visual classrooms and a library. Teaching and counselling are available in Hindi and English.
Admission is through the Redwings Aerotechnique admission test, the Redwings aptitude test, or by direct joining after an eligibility check. Merit scholarships are offered on the admission test score. Redwings students have recorded 100% results in DGCA module examinations across several sessions, and the first Redwings batch achieved 100% placement in airline and MRO jobs.
You are welcome to visit the Bhopal campus to see the labs and workshops, meet the faculty and talk to the admission team before you decide. Parents can join the counselling session too.
