Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) with Redwings
A Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) issued by DGCA allows a pilot to fly an aircraft for hire or reward. It is the licence every airline pilot in India starts with, before a type rating on an airliner and joining an airline as a first officer.
Redwings offers Commercial Pilot Licence training for students who want to fly professionally. Being part of an aviation group with its own DGCA-approved MRO and AME training organisation, students understand aircraft from the engineering side too, which makes them more confident and safety-aware pilots.
The admission team explains the full CPL path, the current batch, flying training arrangements and fees, so students and parents can plan the journey with clear information.
Main steps to a DGCA Commercial Pilot Licence
Medical
Clear the DGCA Class 2 and then Class 1 medical examination with an approved examiner.
Ground subjects
Pass DGCA exams in Air Navigation, Aviation Meteorology, Air Regulations and Technical subjects.
Flying training
Complete the required flying hours, including solo, cross-country, night and instrument flying, at a DGCA-approved flying training organisation.
RTR and licence
Clear the Radio Telephony (Restricted) licence exam and apply to DGCA for the CPL.
DGCA ground subjects for CPL
DGCA conducts written examinations for CPL ground subjects. Strong preparation in navigation, meteorology and regulations is the foundation for safe flying and for the airline interviews that come later.
Students also study aircraft technical subjects, where understanding engines, systems and instruments helps them operate the aircraft correctly and handle abnormal situations.
- Air Navigation
- Aviation Meteorology
- Air Regulations
- Technical General and Technical Specific

Where a CPL can take you
With a CPL, pilots can fly for scheduled airlines after a type rating, or work with charter operators, flying clubs as instructors (with an instructor rating), aerial survey and other commercial operators.
India’s growing airline fleets continue to need trained pilots, so a CPL combined with a disciplined, safety-first attitude opens a long-term career.
- Airline first officer after type rating
- Charter and corporate aviation
- Flight instructor with an instructor rating
- Aerial survey and other commercial flying
