B1.1: turbine-engine aeroplanes
B1.1 is the mechanical licence category for aeroplanes fitted with turbine engines, the type flown by scheduled airlines and cargo operators. Engineers in this category work on the airframe, engines and mechanical and electrical systems.
At Redwings Aerotechnique the B1.1 basic training runs for 2400 hours over three years, with classes in Hindi and English and an online test series for DGCA module preparation. Each batch has up to 60 students.
Students who clear the DGCA basic knowledge modules and complete the maintenance experience set by DGCA under CAR-66 get the AME licence in Category B1.1.
Core work of a B1.1 engineer
Inspect
Check airframe, engines and systems before and after flight.
Troubleshoot
Find and fix defects using approved maintenance data.
Maintain
Carry out scheduled line and base maintenance tasks.
Certify
Release the aircraft to service once licensed and authorised.
B1.1 syllabus
B1.1 students study the DGCA modules for turbine aeroplanes, from fundamentals to engines and propellers. Redwings prepares students for each module exam with classroom teaching, practicals and test series.
- Module 3: Electrical Fundamentals
- Module 4: Electronic Fundamentals
- Module 5: Digital Techniques
- Module 6: Materials and Hardware
- Module 7A: Maintenance Practices
- Module 8: Basic Aerodynamics
- Module 9A: Human Factors
- Module 10: Aviation Legislation
- Module 11A: Turbine Aeroplane Structures and Systems
- Module 15: Gas Turbine Engine
- Module 17A: Propeller

Where B1.1 engineers work
B1.1 engineers work with scheduled airlines, cargo operators, MROs and engine shops on line and base maintenance. With experience, they move on to type ratings for specific aircraft.
Under the Aircraft Act 1934 and the rules made under it, an Indian-registered aircraft can fly only after a DGCA-licensed AME certifies it. Even with a degree in aeronautical engineering, certification needs this licence.
- Scheduled and cargo airlines
- MROs and engine shops
- Line and base maintenance
- Type ratings with experience

Train at Redwings Aerotechnique, Bhopal
Redwings Aerotechnique is a DGCA-approved CAR-147 basic maintenance training organisation in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. It is part of Redwings Group, which also runs its own DGCA-approved CAR-145 maintenance, repair and overhaul organisation. This connection means students learn aircraft maintenance from people who work to real industry standards every day.
Students can choose the B1.1 (turbine aeroplanes), B1.2 (piston aeroplanes) or B2 (avionics) stream, or the dual programme AME + B.E. Classes follow the DGCA syllabus and are supported by an engine system lab, airframe system lab, electrical, radio navigation, instrument and battery workshops, a general workshop, audio-visual classrooms and a library. Teaching and counselling are available in Hindi and English.
Admission is through the Redwings Aerotechnique admission test, or by direct joining after an eligibility check. Merit scholarships are offered on the admission test score. Redwings students have recorded 100% results in DGCA module examinations across several sessions, and Redwings has a 100% placement track record in airline and MRO jobs.
You are welcome to visit the Bhopal campus to see the labs and workshops, meet the faculty and talk to the admission team before you decide. Parents can join the counselling session too.
