What aircraft are made of and held together with
Module 6 covers aircraft materials (ferrous and non-ferrous metals, composites, wood and fabric), corrosion, fasteners, pipes and unions, springs, bearings, transmissions, control cables and electrical cables and connectors.
Knowing materials and hardware is essential for inspection and repair.
What you study in Module 6
Materials
Aluminium alloys, steels, titanium and composites.
Corrosion
Types, causes and prevention of corrosion.
Fasteners
Rivets, bolts, screws and locking devices.
Hardware
Pipes, bearings, springs, cables and connectors.
Inspection and repair
Engineers inspect structures for corrosion and damage, select correct fasteners and replace hardware as per approved data.
Using the wrong material or fastener can affect safety, so this module is central to maintenance work.
- Corrosion inspection
- Correct fastener selection
- Locking and safetying
- Cable and connector care

Workshop practice at Redwings
In the general workshop and airframe lab, students handle real hardware and learn safe practices.
- Airframe system lab
- General workshop
- Hand tools
- Hardware identification

Train at Redwings Aerotechnique, Bhopal
Redwings Aerotechnique is a DGCA-approved CAR-147 basic maintenance training organisation in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. It is part of Redwings Group, which also runs its own DGCA-approved CAR-145 maintenance, repair and overhaul organisation. This connection means students learn aircraft maintenance from people who work to real industry standards every day.
Students can choose the B1.1 (turbine aeroplanes), B1.2 (piston aeroplanes) or B2 (avionics) stream, or the dual programme AME + B.E. Classes follow the DGCA syllabus and are supported by an engine system lab, airframe system lab, electrical, radio navigation, instrument and battery workshops, a general workshop, audio-visual classrooms and a library. Teaching and counselling are available in Hindi and English.
Admission is through the Redwings Aerotechnique admission test, or by direct joining after an eligibility check. Merit scholarships are offered on the admission test score. Redwings students have recorded 100% results in DGCA module examinations across several sessions, and the first Redwings batch achieved 100% placement in airline and MRO jobs.
You are welcome to visit the Bhopal campus to see the labs and workshops, meet the faculty and talk to the admission team before you decide. Parents can join the counselling session too.

Why students choose Redwings
Choosing the right materials and hardware
A large part of maintenance is replacing parts and fasteners correctly. Using the wrong bolt, nut or rivet, or the wrong material, can weaken the aircraft.
Identification
Engineers identify materials and hardware by part numbers in the illustrated parts catalogue, not by appearance alone.
Locking devices
Self-locking nuts, safety wire, cotter pins and locking washers stop fasteners from loosening due to vibration. Engineers learn when and how to use each.
Pipes and cables
Pipes, hoses, control cables and electrical cables must be routed, supported and protected correctly to avoid chafing and damage.
Bearings and transmissions
Bearings, gears and drive belts appear in many systems, and engineers learn how to inspect them for wear and lubricate them correctly.
Learning it at Redwings
Module 6 covers materials and hardware, and students handle real hardware in the general workshop and airframe lab.
Questions answered
Short, clear answers to the questions students and parents ask most. Still unsure about anything? Our admission team is happy to help.
Is Module 6 common to all streams?
Yes, with some topics covered in more depth for B1.
Why is corrosion important?
Corrosion weakens structures and must be found and treated early.
Are practicals included?
Yes, in the workshop and airframe lab.
What comes next?
Module 7 Maintenance Practices.
