Helicopter aerodynamics, structures and systems
Module 12 covers helicopter aerodynamics, flight controls, rotor systems, transmissions, airframe structures and helicopter systems. It applies to the helicopter categories of the AME licence (B1.3 and B1.4).
Redwings offers the B1.1, B1.2 and B2 streams; this page explains Module 12 for students who want to understand the full licence structure.
What Module 12 covers
Rotor aerodynamics
How main and tail rotors produce lift and control.
Flight controls
Cyclic, collective and anti-torque controls.
Transmissions
Gearboxes and drive shafts.
Structures and systems
Airframe and helicopter systems.
Aeroplane and helicopter categories
The AME licence has categories for aeroplanes and helicopters. Aeroplane streams study Module 11, helicopter streams study Module 12, and avionics (B2) study Module 13.
- B1.1 and B1.2: aeroplanes
- B1.3 and B1.4: helicopters
- B2: avionics
- Common foundation modules

Train at Redwings Aerotechnique, Bhopal
Redwings Aerotechnique is a DGCA-approved CAR-147 basic maintenance training organisation in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. It is part of Redwings Group, which also runs its own DGCA-approved CAR-145 maintenance, repair and overhaul organisation. This connection means students learn aircraft maintenance from people who work to real industry standards every day.
Students can choose the B1.1 (turbine aeroplanes), B1.2 (piston aeroplanes) or B2 (avionics) stream, or the dual programme AME + B.E. Classes follow the DGCA syllabus and are supported by an engine system lab, airframe system lab, electrical, radio navigation, instrument and battery workshops, a general workshop, audio-visual classrooms and a library. Teaching and counselling are available in Hindi and English.
Admission is through the Redwings Aerotechnique admission test, or by direct joining after an eligibility check. Merit scholarships are offered on the admission test score. Redwings students have recorded 100% results in DGCA module examinations across several sessions, and the first Redwings batch achieved 100% placement in airline and MRO jobs.
You are welcome to visit the Bhopal campus to see the labs and workshops, meet the faculty and talk to the admission team before you decide. Parents can join the counselling session too.

Why students choose Redwings
The complete AME licence picture
Understanding all modules, including those for other categories, helps students see how the licence system fits together.
Why helicopters are different
Helicopters create lift with rotating blades and control flight by changing blade pitch through cyclic and collective controls. Gearboxes transfer engine power to the rotors, and vibration is a constant maintenance focus.
Shared foundations
Whether you work on aeroplanes or helicopters, the foundation modules are the same. Mathematics, physics, electrical and electronic fundamentals, materials, maintenance practices, human factors and legislation apply everywhere.
Choosing at Redwings
Redwings offers B1.1, B1.2 and B2. Counsellors help students choose a stream based on their interests and career goals.
