How aircraft talk and find their way
Communication systems let pilots talk to air traffic control and the crew. Navigation systems tell the aircraft where it is and guide it along its route.
These avionic systems are a core part of B2 work.
Common avionic systems
Communication
VHF and HF radios and intercom.
Radio navigation
Ground-based navigation aids and landing aids.
Surveillance

Satellite navigation
GPS-based navigation.
Avionics maintenance
B2 engineers test radios and navigation equipment, replace units, check antennas and wiring, and certify the work.

Train at Redwings Aerotechnique, Bhopal
Redwings Aerotechnique is a DGCA-approved CAR-147 basic maintenance training organisation in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. It is part of Redwings Group, which also runs its own DGCA-approved CAR-145 maintenance, repair and overhaul organisation. This connection means students learn aircraft maintenance from people who work to real industry standards every day.
Students can choose the B1.1 (turbine aeroplanes), B1.2 (piston aeroplanes) or B2 (avionics) stream, or the dual programme AME + B.E. Classes follow the DGCA syllabus and are supported by an engine system lab, airframe system lab, electrical, radio navigation, instrument and battery workshops, a general workshop, audio-visual classrooms and a library. Teaching and counselling are available in Hindi and English.
Admission is through the Redwings Aerotechnique admission test, or by direct joining after an eligibility check. Merit scholarships are offered on the admission test score. Redwings students have recorded 100% results in DGCA module examinations across several sessions, and the first Redwings batch achieved 100% placement in airline and MRO jobs.
You are welcome to visit the Bhopal campus to see the labs and workshops, meet the faculty and talk to the admission team before you decide. Parents can join the counselling session too.

Why students choose Redwings
A closer look at avionic communication and navigation
Every flight depends on reliable communication and accurate navigation. Pilots talk to air traffic control and to each other, receive weather and clearance information, and follow precise routes and approach paths. Behind all of this are avionic systems that B2 engineers maintain.
Communication systems
Aircraft carry VHF radios for line-of-sight communication with controllers, and many carry HF radios for long-range communication. An audio and intercom system connects headsets, microphones and speakers for the crew. Data link systems can also send text messages between aircraft and ground.
Navigation systems
Navigation has grown from ground-based radio aids to satellite-based systems. Aircraft use radio navigation receivers, instrument landing systems for precision approaches, inertial and satellite navigation, and flight management systems that combine these sources into one accurate position and route.
Surveillance and safety
Transponders reply to ground radar and help controllers identify aircraft. Collision avoidance and terrain awareness systems add further safety layers.
Maintaining these systems
B2 engineers carry out functional tests, check antennas, coaxial cables and connectors, replace faulty units, load software and databases where required, and certify their work. Careful handling of electrostatic-sensitive devices is essential.
Learning it at Redwings
These systems are covered in Module 13 for B2 students, building on electrical and electronic fundamentals. Practice in the radio navigation and instrument workshops helps students understand how the equipment works and how faults are found.
