Storing and feeding fuel safely
The fuel system stores fuel in tanks and delivers it to the engines at the right pressure and flow. It includes tanks, pumps, valves, filters, indication and refuelling systems.
Fuel system work needs strict safety practices.
Main fuel system parts
Tanks
Store fuel in wings and fuselage.
Pumps
Move fuel to the engines.
Valves
Control feed and crossfeed.
Indication
Shows quantity and flow.
Fuel system maintenance
Engineers drain water, check filters, inspect for leaks, test pumps and indication, and follow fire safety precautions.

Train at Redwings Aerotechnique, Bhopal
Redwings Aerotechnique is a DGCA-approved CAR-147 basic maintenance training organisation in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. It is part of Redwings Group, which also runs its own DGCA-approved CAR-145 maintenance, repair and overhaul organisation. This connection means students learn aircraft maintenance from people who work to real industry standards every day.
Students can choose the B1.1 (turbine aeroplanes), B1.2 (piston aeroplanes) or B2 (avionics) stream, or the dual programme AME + B.E. Classes follow the DGCA syllabus and are supported by an engine system lab, airframe system lab, electrical, radio navigation, instrument and battery workshops, a general workshop, audio-visual classrooms and a library. Teaching and counselling are available in Hindi and English.
Admission is through the Redwings Aerotechnique admission test, or by direct joining after an eligibility check. Merit scholarships are offered on the admission test score. Redwings students have recorded 100% results in DGCA module examinations across several sessions, and the first Redwings batch achieved 100% placement in airline and MRO jobs.
You are welcome to visit the Bhopal campus to see the labs and workshops, meet the faculty and talk to the admission team before you decide. Parents can join the counselling session too.

Why students choose Redwings
How fuel reaches the engines safely
The fuel system must store enough fuel for the flight, deliver it to the engines at the right pressure under all conditions, and do so without leaks, contamination or fire risk.
Storage
Most aircraft store fuel in tanks inside the wings, and larger aircraft may have centre or tail tanks too. Tanks are vented to keep pressure balanced, and baffles reduce sloshing.
Feeding the engines
Booster pumps in the tanks push fuel towards the engines, where engine-driven pumps raise the pressure further. Valves allow crossfeed between tanks and shut off fuel in an emergency. Filters remove contaminants, and heaters may prevent ice crystals blocking filters.
Quantity and indication
Sensors measure the fuel in each tank and send information to cockpit gauges. Accurate indication is essential for flight planning and safety.
Safety in maintenance
Fuel vapour can ignite easily, so fuel system work follows strict safety rules: bonding to prevent static, ventilation, protective equipment, fire extinguishers on standby and careful draining of water and sediment.
Learning it at Redwings
Fuel systems are part of Module 11 for B1 and Module 13 for B2, while Module 7 covers the safety practices used during fuel system work.
Questions answered
Short, clear answers to the questions students and parents ask most. Still unsure about anything? Our admission team is happy to help.
Why drain water from fuel?
Water can cause engine problems.
Who maintains fuel systems?
Mainly B1 engineers, with B2 for indication.
Is fuel work dangerous?
It needs strict safety practices.
Which module covers it?
Module 11 or 13.
