The mechanical AME licence
The B1 licence covers aircraft structures, power plants and mechanical and electrical systems. It has sub-categories for turbine aeroplanes (B1.1), piston aeroplanes (B1.2), turbine helicopters (B1.3) and piston helicopters (B1.4).
A B1 engineer can certify maintenance on the structure, engines and mechanical systems, along with simple avionics checks within limits.

Train at Redwings Aerotechnique, Bhopal
Redwings Aerotechnique is a DGCA-approved CAR-147 basic maintenance training organisation in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. It is part of Redwings Group, which also runs its own DGCA-approved CAR-145 maintenance, repair and overhaul organisation. This connection means students learn aircraft maintenance from people who work to real industry standards every day.
Students can choose the B1.1 (turbine aeroplanes), B1.2 (piston aeroplanes) or B2 (avionics) stream, or the dual programme AME + B.E. Classes follow the DGCA syllabus and are supported by an engine system lab, airframe system lab, electrical, radio navigation, instrument and battery workshops, a general workshop, audio-visual classrooms and a library. Teaching and counselling are available in Hindi and English.
Admission is through the Redwings Aerotechnique admission test, or by direct joining after an eligibility check. Merit scholarships are offered on the admission test score. Redwings students have recorded 100% results in DGCA module examinations across several sessions, and the first Redwings batch achieved 100% placement in airline and MRO jobs.
You are welcome to visit the Bhopal campus to see the labs and workshops, meet the faculty and talk to the admission team before you decide. Parents can join the counselling session too.

Why students choose Redwings
Is the B1 mechanical licence right for you?
The B1 licence is the mechanical category of the Aircraft Maintenance Engineer licence. It suits students who enjoy engines, structures, hydraulics, landing gear and hands-on mechanical work.
What B1 engineers work on
B1 engineers inspect and maintain the airframe, flight controls, landing gear, hydraulic, fuel and pneumatic systems, and the engines and propellers. They also carry out some electrical and avionic tasks within the limits of their privileges.
Choosing B1.1 or B1.2
B1.1 focuses on aeroplanes with turbine engines, the type flown by most airlines and cargo operators. B1.2 focuses on aeroplanes with piston engines, common in flying clubs, training organisations and general aviation.
Skills that help
Mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, comfort with tools and a strong sense of responsibility make a good B1 engineer.
Career outlook
B1 engineers are needed by airlines, MROs, engine shops, flying clubs and charter operators. With type ratings and experience they can grow into senior roles.
B1 at Redwings
Redwings offers B1.1 and B1.2 basic training with the engine system lab, airframe system lab and general workshop, module-wise exam preparation and placement support.
