Engines from the avionics point of view
Module 14 is studied by B2 students. It covers the basics of turbine and piston engines, engine indicating systems, ignition and starting systems, and the electronic engine control systems that B2 engineers maintain.
It helps avionics engineers understand the engine data they test and troubleshoot.
What you study in Module 14
Engine basics
How turbine and piston engines produce power.
Indications
Temperature, pressure, speed and fuel flow indications.
Starting and ignition
Electrical side of starting and ignition systems.
Engine control
Electronic engine control and monitoring.
Where B2 meets the engine
Engine sensors and control units are avionic equipment. B2 engineers check and replace them and verify correct indications.
- Sensor checks
- Indication faults
- Control unit replacement
- System tests

Preparing for Module 14
Link each indication to the engine parameter it measures. Faculty at Redwings use diagrams and system examples.
- System diagrams
- Parameter links
- Practice questions

Train at Redwings Aerotechnique, Bhopal
Redwings Aerotechnique is a DGCA-approved CAR-147 basic maintenance training organisation in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. It is part of Redwings Group, which also runs its own DGCA-approved CAR-145 maintenance, repair and overhaul organisation. This connection means students learn aircraft maintenance from people who work to real industry standards every day.
Students can choose the B1.1 (turbine aeroplanes), B1.2 (piston aeroplanes) or B2 (avionics) stream, or the dual programme AME + B.E. Classes follow the DGCA syllabus and are supported by an engine system lab, airframe system lab, electrical, radio navigation, instrument and battery workshops, a general workshop, audio-visual classrooms and a library. Teaching and counselling are available in Hindi and English.
Admission is through the Redwings Aerotechnique admission test, or by direct joining after an eligibility check. Merit scholarships are offered on the admission test score. Redwings students have recorded 100% results in DGCA module examinations across several sessions, and the first Redwings batch achieved 100% placement in airline and MRO jobs.
You are welcome to visit the Bhopal campus to see the labs and workshops, meet the faculty and talk to the admission team before you decide. Parents can join the counselling session too.

Why students choose Redwings
How B2 engineers support engine reliability
Engines are mechanical, but their control and monitoring are increasingly electronic. B2 engineers keep this electronic side working.
Engine indication
Sensors measure temperatures, pressures, speeds, vibration and fuel flow, and send data to cockpit displays and maintenance computers. Faulty indications can lead to unnecessary engine removals or missed problems, so accurate testing is important.
Engine control
Many modern engines use electronic engine control units that manage fuel flow and other parameters. B2 engineers test and replace these units and their wiring.
Starting and ignition
The electrical parts of starting and ignition systems are also checked by avionics engineers.
Working with B1 colleagues
Engine problems are often solved jointly: B1 engineers handle the mechanical side while B2 engineers check sensors, wiring and control units.
Learning it at Redwings
Module 14 introduces these topics for B2 students, building on electrical and electronic fundamentals.
Questions answered
Short, clear answers to the questions students and parents ask most. Still unsure about anything? Our admission team is happy to help.
Who studies Module 14?
B2 avionics students.
Do B1 students study it?
B1 students study Module 15 or 16 for engines instead.
Is it about engine repair?
It focuses on engine systems from an avionics view.
Is it a large module?
It is smaller than the engine modules for B1.
