Digital techniques and electronic instrument systems
Module 5 covers numbering systems, data conversion, data buses, logic circuits, basic computer structure, fibre optics, electronic displays and electrostatic-sensitive devices.
It also introduces electronic instrument systems and the software management and electromagnetic environment considerations of modern aircraft.
What you study in Module 5
Numbers and logic
Binary, octal and hexadecimal, and logic gates.
Data buses
How aircraft systems share data.
Displays
Electronic flight and system displays.
Handling care
Electrostatic-sensitive devices and the electromagnetic environment.
The digital aircraft
Modern cockpits use electronic displays and computers connected by data buses. Engineers need to understand how data flows to diagnose faults.
Careful handling of sensitive components protects expensive avionics.
- Glass cockpit displays
- Data bus faults
- Software and configuration
- ESD protection

Important for B2 and B1 engineers
The module is studied by B1 and B2 students, with greater depth for B2 avionics.

Train at Redwings Aerotechnique, Bhopal
Redwings Aerotechnique is a DGCA-approved CAR-147 basic maintenance training organisation in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. It is part of Redwings Group, which also runs its own DGCA-approved CAR-145 maintenance, repair and overhaul organisation. This connection means students learn aircraft maintenance from people who work to real industry standards every day.
Students can choose the B1.1 (turbine aeroplanes), B1.2 (piston aeroplanes) or B2 (avionics) stream, or the dual programme AME + B.E. Classes follow the DGCA syllabus and are supported by an engine system lab, airframe system lab, electrical, radio navigation, instrument and battery workshops, a general workshop, audio-visual classrooms and a library. Teaching and counselling are available in Hindi and English.
Admission is through the Redwings Aerotechnique admission test, or by direct joining after an eligibility check. Merit scholarships are offered on the admission test score. Redwings students have recorded 100% results in DGCA module examinations across several sessions, and the first Redwings batch achieved 100% placement in airline and MRO jobs.
You are welcome to visit the Bhopal campus to see the labs and workshops, meet the faculty and talk to the admission team before you decide. Parents can join the counselling session too.

Why students choose Redwings
Why digital skills matter in modern maintenance
Modern aircraft are full of computers that share data. Engineers who understand digital systems can find faults faster and avoid unnecessary part changes.
Data buses
Aircraft systems exchange information through data buses. A fault in one unit or a wiring problem can show up as warnings on several systems, so understanding data flow is key.
Software and configuration
Some units need correct software versions and configuration. Engineers follow approved procedures to load software and confirm the right configuration.
Displays and protection
Electronic displays have replaced many traditional gauges, and electrostatic-sensitive devices need careful handling.
Learning it at Redwings
Module 5 is taught with practical examples, preparing students, especially B2, for the systems modules that follow.
