How an aircraft flies
Module 8 covers the physics of the atmosphere, airflow, lift, drag, thrust and weight, aircraft stability and the basics of flight dynamics.
It helps engineers understand why the shape and condition of wings and control surfaces matter.
What you study in Module 8
Atmosphere
The International Standard Atmosphere and its use.
Aerodynamics
Airflow, boundary layer, lift and drag.
Theory of flight
Forces in flight and how they balance.
Stability
Static and dynamic stability of aircraft.
Why aerodynamics matters in maintenance
Dents, damage or wrong rigging on wings and control surfaces change airflow and can affect handling. Engineers inspect these areas with an understanding of aerodynamics.
- Control surface rigging
- Surface damage limits
- Ice and contamination
- Balance and trim

Preparing for Module 8
Use diagrams, models and real aircraft examples. Link each concept to what you inspect on an aircraft.
- Diagrams and models
- Aircraft examples
- Practice questions
- Revision

Train at Redwings Aerotechnique, Bhopal
Redwings Aerotechnique is a DGCA-approved CAR-147 basic maintenance training organisation in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. It is part of Redwings Group, which also runs its own DGCA-approved CAR-145 maintenance, repair and overhaul organisation. This connection means students learn aircraft maintenance from people who work to real industry standards every day.
Students can choose the B1.1 (turbine aeroplanes), B1.2 (piston aeroplanes) or B2 (avionics) stream, or the dual programme AME + B.E. Classes follow the DGCA syllabus and are supported by an engine system lab, airframe system lab, electrical, radio navigation, instrument and battery workshops, a general workshop, audio-visual classrooms and a library. Teaching and counselling are available in Hindi and English.
Admission is through the Redwings Aerotechnique admission test, or by direct joining after an eligibility check. Merit scholarships are offered on the admission test score. Redwings students have recorded 100% results in DGCA module examinations across several sessions, and the first Redwings batch achieved 100% placement in airline and MRO jobs.
You are welcome to visit the Bhopal campus to see the labs and workshops, meet the faculty and talk to the admission team before you decide. Parents can join the counselling session too.

Why students choose Redwings
Making aerodynamics easy to understand
Aerodynamics can feel abstract, but it becomes easy when you connect it to what you see on aircraft.
Lift and drag
A wing produces lift because of its shape and angle to the airflow. Drag is the resistance the aircraft must overcome. Flaps, slats and spoilers change lift and drag during take-off and landing.
Stability and control
A stable aircraft tends to return to steady flight after a disturbance. Control surfaces change the forces on the aircraft to roll, pitch and yaw.
Why engineers care
Damage, dents, ice or incorrect rigging change the airflow and can affect handling. Engineers inspect surfaces with this in mind.
Learning it at Redwings
Faculty use diagrams, models and real aircraft examples, so Module 8 becomes the base for the detailed systems modules that follow.
Questions answered
Short, clear answers to the questions students and parents ask most. Still unsure about anything? Our admission team is happy to help.
Is Module 8 common?
Yes, it is a foundation module for B1 and B2.
Do I need to fly?
No. It is about understanding flight, not piloting.
What follows Module 8?
Detailed aerodynamics in Module 11 or 13.
Is it taught in Hindi?
Classes are available in Hindi and English.
